SWL is a not-for-profit corporation formed to protect and preserve the Integrity of the Walden Lake Planned Development
Document (PD), our community’s best defense against threats to resident’s property values and quality of life. Our approach is to plan effective strategies and work with the WLCA in their execution. Policies and positions require unanimous consent of officers: Nick Brown, President; Bill Griffin, Vice-President/Secretary; Don Morong, Treasurer.
WALDEN LAKE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION
The WLCA is governed by (nominally 9) member Board of directors, each serving 3-year terms. The failure of the golf course has resulted in a concomitant increase in member apathy. The ascendance of a vocal minority committed to attacking Board members has put the protection of resident homeowner interests in jeopardy.
WALDEN LAKE LLC
WLLLC purchased the golf course property for $2.6 million in 2019, following bank foreclosure. As land packagers their focus is directed to residential rezoning of the property followed by sale to developers. Spokesmen are Carmine Zouyan, Miami Development Director for Canada’s Heffey Corp., and Atty. Josh Berman.
SWL/WLCA JOINT EFFORTS
SWL joined the WLCA in opposing Visions Golf rezoning proposal in 2016 and WLLLC plans in 2022 & 2023. In addition, as Intervenor SWL supported the City defense in WLLLC’s 2024 Live Local Act lawsuit. It is anticipated that WLLLC will, submit a revised rezoning plan to the City in 2026. Once again, SWL will join the WLCA as intervenors opposing the proposal.
